Meet the wannabe Luddittes.
Over at the Daily Mail Online, reporter Chris Brooke writes about the modern technophobic family. The werewolf thinks the Jones's should go the whole nine yards, and eschew anything that requires an electric current. That would impressive. In the meantime, they are like vegetarians who eat fish and allow for turkey at Thanksgiving. Mere poseurs who deserve scorn and derision.

Those who Tweet are Twats!
I don't get Twitter. David Carr, of the New York Times, projects that it is here to stay. Here to stay or not, that doesn't diminish the notion that people who tweet are total twats.
Yes, to give credit where credit is due, I am impressed that Twitter has helped Iranian dissidents organize in Tehran, and destabilize the mullahacracy. It's also refreshing to know that a technology aimed at peoples insecure vanity and inflated sense of self has actually added value somewhere beyond technophile scene in the Bay Area.
Twitter is a like a crack cocaine fueled version of the worst feature of Facebook, the status update. It also seems like Twitter is aimed at the most annoying people from Facebook, the one's who update their status with each new breath they draw. You know who are are. Not only is the thought of constantly broadcasting my location and petty thoughts to the world somehow striping me of my beloved anonymity and privacy, but the thought that there is a population out there that actually would give a damn about such things disturbs me.
Who has the time, patience, and lack of an imagination to actively follow someones tweets? On some level, doesn't that speak poorly of he who follows? The true definition of electronic sheep in search of a digital shepherd. I don't want to run the risk of sounding like some sort of Luddite, but, I can't help thinking that social norms and our ability to relate to one another will further be comprised if we start accepting that 140 character brain farts about nothing, ejaculated from our nifty little smartphone devices, and spewed across the digital spectrum, represent some sort of meaningful communication. Here's to staying grounded.
